Our verdict: While TPG’s a major brand, its speeds and prices are actually pretty reasonable. But if you’re looking for bonus features, you’ll need to look elsewhere.
TPG keeps its overall plan prices lower than some of the other big providers:
TPG's NBN 50 plan is one of the cheapest on Finder as it's one of the few major providers that has kept pricing the same, despite NBN wholesale prices going up.
The NBN modem is pretty affordable when stacked up against the average modem price on Finder.
If you're in the market for 4G or 5G home internet, TPG's home wireless plans could be a good choice, with your first month free to give it a taste.
While TPG comes with big brand energy and straightforward NBN plans, it doesn't come with any exciting features that other major providers may offer, such as entertainment bundles or a 4G back-up modem. It used to provide email addresses with its internet plans, but stopped this as of September 2023.
Things to watch out for:
To cancel your TPG NBN plan, you need to provide written notice 30 days in advance.
To cancel your TPG home wireless or 5G home broadband plan, you need to provide written notice 7 days in advance.
On its home wireless plans, TPG requires you to use its provided modem. It costs $0 if you stay connected with it for 24 months. If you leave before that time, you need to return the modem in good condition to TPG or you'll be charged $8 for every month remaining in your first 24 months.
A bit of background on TPG
TPG offers a diverse range of communication services to both residential and business users. It has NBN, Fibre Optic and Ethernet broadband access, telephony services, SIM Only Mobile plans and various business networking solutions.
Originally formed in 1986, TPG acquired iiNet in 2015 and merged with Vodafone in 2020 to become one of the leading fixed broadband providers in Australia.
TPG's nation-wide network is made up of Australia's largest internet exchange and third largest metropolitan fibre optic network.
It is Australia's second largest NBN provider according to the June 2023 ACCC Wholesale Market Indicators report.
Our expert says
"I've been with TPG for over 5+ years and moved houses twice over that time. I initially signed up because they were the cheapest plan for someone regularly working from home and for Netflix data. The reason why I've stayed with TPG is because they have been so easy to use during house moves, both times it's been working by the time I got the keys. When I've had to call with issues - they've always been easy to get hold off. The only area I'd improve is their online experience. When I need to change bank details or have missed a payment that I need to fix, it's a bit old and clunky."
As of March 2025, TPG placed 3rd (out of 11 providers) when it came to download speeds during busy periods of the day. According to the ACCC Measuring Broadband Australia Report, it delivered maximum plan speeds 102.5% of the time during the busy hours of the day (7pm-11pm).
Why this matters: The ACCC report is a quarterly measure of a provider's performance based on speeds.
TPG has ranked towards the middle of the pack for most of the recent reports, delivering around 96-102% of maximum speeds. It last topped the report back in April 2021.
Good to know: A plan's maximum speed is the fastest a particular speed tier can go. For example, 100Mbps is the max speed for NBN 100 plans.
Customer service
TPG has a few ways to get in touch. You can get help by:
Calling technical support 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. For accounts and billing enquiries you can call between 8am-10pm AEST Monday to Sunday
Logging on to the TPG community forum and asking other users and TPG support staff
Live chatting online
Sending a message to the TPG Facebook or Twitter
The Telecommunications Industry Ombudsman covers complaints data from phone and internet customers. In the 2023 Annual Report for the financial year ending June 2023, TPG:
Had 3.35% of all complaints, which was the fourth highest of all providers.
Saw a 31% decrease in complaints compared to the previous year's report.
Bonus features
TPG does have one additional feature that may be of interest to you:
Bundling discounts
Bundling your TPG internet and TPG mobile plan could get you up to $10 off your SIM Only plan.
TPG's mobile discount doesn't apply to its SIM Only Small plan. You'll need to have one of its other SIM Only plans to take advantage of its bundling discount.
How does TPG compare?
As the NBN 50 is the most common plan in Australia, here's a look at how TPG stacks up against other major internet providers for this tier. Keep in mind we've used ongoing prices for each provider (no promotional discounts applied).
After you've decided on an internet plan that works best for you, it's easy to sign up to TPG.
You just need to enter your address on its website to make sure you can access the plan you've chosen, whether that's NBN or home wireless broadband.
What if I'm moving house? TPG actually has a specialist house moving team you can call up to arrange your move. TPG advises that it may take between 1-10 business days to hook up your new service.
Be aware that you may need to give your current provider advance notice so you aren't stuck paying for 2 Internet services.
It depends on the broadband plan that you get as to how much TPG costs. Its NBN plans range from $74.99 to $109.99 a month. Its home wireless plans start from $54.99 a month.
Yes, TPG uses 5G and you can get 5G home broadband plans. TPG has confirmed to Finder that TPG 5G home broadband operates on the TPG Telecom 5G Network, which supports all the TPG group for both fixed and mobile purposes.
No. TPG's 5G home broadband plans are capped at a maximum download speed of 100Mbps, with a typical evening speed of 96Mbps. The fastest NBN plan offered by TPG is its NBN 1000 plan, which has a typical evening speed of 450Mbps.
Most of TPG's internet plans come with unlimited data, so you won't have to worry about going over a limit.
Only 1 internet plan has a data limit, and that is its Home Wireless Broadband 100GB Plan. If you go over the 100GB limit, your service will stop working until the start of the next billing cycle.
It depends on which service you get and whether you want a home phone line as to whether you need to buy a new modem from TPG.
TPG does allow you to BYO modem for its NBN plans so you don't need to buy a new one. But if you want to add a home phone line to your NBN plan, you'll need to buy a new modem from TPG.
If you want to use one of its home wireless plans, then you must use the included modem for those plans.
To cancel your TPG plan, you can log in to your TPG My Account and click on the "Cancel Your Service" option under the Account Management. You need to fill in all the required information and agree to the terms when requesting for service termination.
TPG requires 30 days written notice to cancel your NBN plan or 7 days written notice to cancel a home wireless or 5G home broadband plan. You must pay for charges for the service up to the end of the notice period.

I would like the NBN that I heard about as a child, ie fibre to the house and 100 mbs speeds.
I am prepared to pay extra to get the fibre to my house (subject to a sensible quote).
Can this be done?
Will it give 100 mbs?
Who do I ask to have it done?
Cheers

Hi Graeme,
Thank you for your inquiry.
You may refer to our table to compare providers that offer FTTN NBN or Fibre plans with 100mbps speed. You may compare your options based on the price, data, speed, and contract length (please see the image below for the guide). There’s also a ‘Go to site’ button that you can click on that page so you’d be redirected to the provider’s main site. If you have questions about installation, you can directly contact the provider anytime.
Hope this helps.
Cheers,

We have been with our current ISP Westnet for over 10 years so would ideally like to retain the same email address (it is on so many things). Can we still keep this email address given Westnet now fall under TPG?
BrodieNovember 23, 2016
Hi Eugene,
Unfortunately, you will have to remain a Westnet customer in some form to retain your email address. You can sign up to a cheap service through Westnet and essentially pay to keep your email address, but I would recommend contacting Westnet support for advice on the best option 1300 786 068.
Can't decide between TPG and iiNet? We've compared the two over a range of categories to find out which provider is better.

Finder makes money from featured partners, but editorial opinions are our own.
Finder is one of Australia's leading comparison websites. We are committed to our readers and stand by our editorial principles.
We try to take an open and transparent approach and provide a broad-based comparison service. However, you should be aware that while we are an independently owned service, our comparison service does not include all providers or all products available in the market.
Some product issuers may provide products or offer services through multiple brands, associated companies or different labeling arrangements. This can make it difficult for consumers to compare alternatives or identify the companies behind the products. However, we aim to provide information to enable consumers to understand these issues.
We make money by featuring products on our site. Compensation received from the providers featured on our site can influence which products we write about as well as where and how products appear on our page, but the order or placement of these products does not influence our assessment or opinions of them, nor is it an endorsement or recommendation for them.
Products marked as 'Top Pick', 'Promoted' or 'Advertisement' are prominently displayed either as a result of a commercial advertising arrangement or to highlight a particular product, provider or feature. Finder may receive remuneration from the Provider if you click on the related link, purchase or enquire about the product. Finder's decision to show a 'promoted' product is neither a recommendation that the product is appropriate for you nor an indication that the product is the best in its category. We encourage you to use the tools and information we provide to compare your options.
Where our site links to particular products or displays 'Go to site' buttons, we may receive a commission, referral fee or payment when you click on those buttons or apply for a product.
When products are grouped in a table or list, the order in which they are initially sorted may be influenced by a range of factors including price, fees and discounts; commercial partnerships; product features; and brand popularity. We provide tools so you can sort and filter these lists to highlight features that matter to you.
