ANZ Frequent Flyer Black Credit Card

  • Amy Bradney-George's headshot

Our verdict

Offers up to 130,000 bonus Qantas Points and $200 back on your new card, with a $425 annual fee.

The ANZ Frequent Flyer Black Credit Card has one of the highest bonus Qantas Points offers on the market right now. It offers 90,000 bonus Qantas Points and $200 back when you spend $5,000 on eligible purchases in the first 3 months from approval. And another 40,000 bonus Qantas Points when you keep it open for over 12 months. Just keep in mind that you'd need to pay the annual fee twice to get all the bonus points. But if you did, you'd have enough points for a one-way business class flight from Sydney to Los Angeles (108,400 Qantas Points) or a return business class flight from Melbourne to Fiji (114,000 points), as an example.

Pros

  • Up to 130,000 bonus Qantas Points and $200 back
  • 2 complimentary Qantas Club Lounge invitations per year
  • 1 Qantas Point per $1 spent up to $7,500 per statement period, then 0.5 Qantas Points / $1 spent
  • Complimentary insurance covers, including international travel insurance, purchase protection insurance and extended warranty insurance

Cons

  • You need to keep the card over 12 months to collect all the bonus points offered
  • The standard annual fee of $425 p.a. is high.
  • When you spend over $7,500 per statement period, the earn rate drops from 1 point per $1 spent to 0.5 points per $1.

The ANZ Frequent Flyer Black Credit Card offers plenty of points and travel perks, including a big bonus Qantas Points offer for new customers, lounge invitations and complimentary travel insurance. It also earns a competitive 1 Qantas Point per $1 on eligible purchases up to $7,500 per statement period, then 0.5 points per $1 for the rest of that statement period. But with a relatively high $425 annual fee, you should make sure you get enough value beyond the bonus points if you plan to keep this card.

Where could you fly with ANZ Frequent Flyer Black's 130K bonus points?

Our expert says

"I took out the ANZ Frequent Flyer Black Credit Card about a year ago. I was looking to switch from a Virgin Amex to a Qantas Visa, as Virgin flights were harder to redeem for US travel and Amex sometimes incurred a surcharge or wasn't accepted. The ANZ card has more bonus points on application and Visa is much more widely accepted. But the earn rate is slightly less, the ongoing annual fee is slightly more, and after you spend $7K in a month you only earn 0.5 points per $1 spent. I also found the Amex app much easier to use than the ANZ app, especially for payments. I like this card overall, but I'd like a few more perks, the removal of the half points cap for a $425 card, and an easier to use app."

I have an ANZ platinum card. Would I still be eligible for the Qantas bonus points if I was to cancel that card and get this one?

Hi Yohan,

I don’t think you would be unfortunately. According to the terms and conditions “You are not eligible for this offer if you currently hold or have held an ANZ Frequent Flyer or ANZ Rewards credit card in the last 24 months.”

Hi Carlos,

This card allows you to accrue Qantas points, which you can redeem against Qantas and Jetstar flights, with some other affiliated airlines like Emirates. Hope this helps!

Yes that’s right, the earn rate is 1 Qantas Point for every $1 up to and including $7,500, then 0.5 Qantas Points for every $1 over $7,500, on eligible purchases. You’ll also earn 1 bonus Qantas per $1 spent on selected Qantas products. Hope this helps!

Hi Troy,

Your best bet is to contact ANZ directly and discuss your personal circumstances including your income, to see if you can qualify for this card. Usually they will look for a minimum income (eg $1500 a week), though this amount depends on your expenses and debts.

Hope this helps!
